Improving wildlife habitat

Members of the Conservation Commission recently planted 60 seedlings in a clearing in the Kimball Pond Conservation area created to improve wildlife habitat. When mature the specifically selected trees and shrubs will provide food for birds and animals. Crab apple, elderberry, cranberry, juneberry, hazelnut and beach plum were among the varieties planted.

Providing quality wildlife habitat is a priority in all of the town's conservation areas.

Conservation Commission member Matt Lavey was recently presented this plaque in recognition of his 26 years of service on the Commission. Matt and his wife Roberta are moving to Portland Maine.

Good day for a hike!

Twenty-five people turned out for an interpretive hike to the old Whipple Place in the Kimball Pond Conservation Area. The excursion was led by David Butler and included instruction on dating old cut stone foundations and features of topography that give clues as to past uses of the land.
