Discover Long Pond

Our Saturday, May 16 "Hike" of the Month will be a short paddling excursion on Long Pond. Bring your canoe or kayak (and bug dope - the black flies are out!).

Long Pond is a small, 31-acre hidden gem off of Long Pond Road. It can be circumnavigated in an hour or less.

To find the pond, look for the mailboxes 40 and 42 on Long Pond Road. Take the paved drive near the mailboxes uphill, passing a gravel drive on the right. Go straight on the unimproved dirt when the pavement swings left to a private home. 50 yards later bear left to find the boat launch.

We will meet at the boat launch at 10:00 am. Car pooling is encouraged since the launch area is small. You may wish to bring binoculars or a fishing pole. There may be room in boats available for those that don't have them, but that will be catch-as-catch-can. Everyone must wear a life jacket / pfd.

Please bring a trash bag with you. We'll do a quick spring trash cleanup before we leave.

Kuncanowet excursion April 18

The Saturday, April 18 Hike of the Month commemorating Dunbarton’s 250th Anniversary will be an excursion into the Kuncanowet Town Forest and Conservation Area as we enjoy some of the easiest trails.

We will depart from the parking area at the end of Holiday Shore Drive at 10:00 am.  Weaving our way along the Hobblebush Trail, Pond View Loop Trail and a portion of the Mill Pond Trail, we will arrive at the Stinson Mill Site and the Mill Pond.

The one hour plus hike will cover between two and three of the seven miles of trails available.  Hikers who wish to challenge themselves further may continue on to explore the remainder of the KTFCA trail system.  Maps will be available for those adventurous trekkers.

Hikers completing all thirteen hikes to the Thirteen Wonders of Dunbarton will receive a limited edition 250th Anniversary Natural Wonder Certificate.
